Sedation - Visiting the Dentist Without Fear
Sedation
Achieving a gorgeous smile doesn’t necessarily mean you have to feel pain. Cosmetic dentists empathize with your concern about pain, and offer several anesthetics or sedatives to promote comfort during your dental procedures.
Nitrous oxide—or laughing gas—is often used because it’s safe and effective. With nitrous oxide, you’re still able to answer your dentist’s questions—your tolerance for pain just increases considerably.
Triazolam
If your cosmetic dentist decides to use Triazolam, you will be instructed to abstain from food and water for eight hours prior to your appointment. One hour before the appointment, you will take a pill and then another one when you sit down in the dental chair.
Your dentist will strongly urge you to be driven to and from the hospital.
About fifteen minutes after taking the medication, you will feel relaxed, allowing your cosmetic dentist to perform dental procedures.
Safe and effective, Triazolam allows clients to feel effects similar to amnesia, so that you have no recollection of your visit when you return home.
General Anesthesia
Some people have a huge fear of the dentist and wish to be completely sedated. With general anesthesia, you will be put to sleep under medication. If not done properly, general anesthesia can have severe outcomes, so make sure whoever is administering the medication is certified and well-trained.
When you fear the dentist so much that it interferes with the chance to achieve your dream smile or simply to undergo a significant treatment, ask your dentist about sedation dentistry.
